Storm damage repair in St. Charles and Lincoln County

After a big hail or wind storm, expect a few roofing salespeople at your door within a day or two. Before you sign with one of them or call your insurance company, it's worth having someone local look at the roof first.

What should I do right after a storm damages my roof?

Don't go up on the roof yourself. Take photos of whatever you can see from the ground, and if water is coming inside, call us so we can cover the roof until it's repaired.

Get the roof inspected before you file a claim. If there's damage, you'll have photos to send your insurance company. If there isn't, you won't have a claim on your record for nothing.

Get a second opinion before you file

Several of the larger storm companies working this area have sales quotas to hit. After a storm their reps go down the whole street telling people they have hail damage, and sometimes there isn't any. It's part of why insurance adjusters and roofers butt heads so often.

I get a lot of calls from people who just want someone else to look. What I tell them is to hold off on the claim until I've been up there. Sometimes I find real damage and we get started, and sometimes I find nothing and tell them to keep their roof.

What happens when you call after a storm

  1. Inspection

I check the shingles, flashing, gutters, and siding, and you get photos of what I find.

  2. Temporary protection

If water is getting in, we cover the roof so the damage doesn't get worse before the repair.

  3. Documentation

When there is storm damage, you get photos and a written scope of work to give your insurance company.

  4. Help with the claim

I worked in insurance restoration for close to 20 years before HoneyFyx, so I can explain how the claim process usually goes and what to expect from it.

  5. The repair

Roof, siding, or gutters, with the same process and cleanup as any other job we do.

You'll deal with me, start to finish

I'm Chris Heins. I started as a union carpenter after high school and spent close to 20 years managing insurance restoration jobs before I opened HoneyFyx in 2019. The company is small on purpose, and I'm involved in every job from the first visit to the final walkthrough. If something comes up during your project, you call my phone.

HoneyFyx received the BBB Torch Award for Ethics in 2023, which is worth knowing when you're deciding who to let on your roof after a storm.

Questions homeowners ask

Should I file an insurance claim before or after an inspection?

After. If the inspection finds storm damage, you'll have photos and a scope of work to back up the claim. If it doesn't, you've avoided filing one you didn't need.

Can you put a tarp on my roof if it's leaking?

Yes. If water is coming in after a storm, we'll cover the roof to stop further damage until the permanent repair is done.

Will you tell me if there's no storm damage?

Yes, and it happens often. You'll get the photos either way.

What storm damage do you repair?

Hail and wind damage to roofs, siding, and gutters. That covers missing or creased shingles, bent or loose flashing, dented gutters and downspouts, and cracked siding.

Do you only do insurance work?

No. We do insurance jobs and jobs the homeowner pays for directly, and we run both the same way.
